The Yerke Brothers - We began longboarding in 2007, and were instantly hooked.  We soon started charging alleys and parking garages, and a few weeks later met Alex Kwiecinski, the founder of Go Green Longboarding.  We joined the group that summer and we've been great friends with Al ever since.  In 2008, we began making crude flat decked skateboards, some with foam tails, and in March 2009 we competed at the Chicago Cone Crusher with our homemade planks.  We had a blast at our first event and had a great time learning from Jonathan Harms, Claude Regnier, and a few other top riders who were vry welcoming and encouraging.  In April of 09, Jay, Myself, and our Go Green teammates organized "Madness In The Mitten", Michigan's first longboard race of the millenia.  The event was a success with about 40 riders from across Michigan and Illinois.  Jason took first place, just ahead of Go Green teammate Peter Weinrauch, and has defended his title annually ever since.  In October, www.gogreenlongboarding.com was released and we began writing skate related articles for it alongside our Go Green teammates.  Throughout the rest of 2009 we continued to refine our boards, materials, and processes.  By the end, we had created our first sustainable press, and since then have added others to the lineup creating the decks you see today.  After a few tweaks to the finishing process, we released www.beeskneesboards.com, and opened our doors to customers across North America.  Since then we have continued building decks and attending as many events as we can.  We each picked up our first ISSA event wins last year and finished the 2012 ISSA slalom year ranked no. 14 (jay) and no.33 (derek) in the world for the mens pro season.  Jason also finished third at the 2011 Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon World Championships, and is now the four time champion of Madness in the Mitten, which had over 100 skaters this year.  We are here because we take a lot of pride in seeing friends enjoy products that we put a lot of time and effort into creating, and even more importantly,  because we absolutely love skateboarding and the community that embraces it.

Alex Kwiecinski

Picture
Alex K. is considered the "grandfather" of longboarding in the Lansing area and Michigan as a whole.  In 2006 he and current Bustin' rider Mike Dallas co-founded Go Green Longboarding.  After Mike moved to NYC, Alex kept Go Green running and eventually ran into us while bombing opposite sides of a parking garage one night.  We had just made our first slide gloves but had no idea how to slide. When we asked the guys at the local shop, they told us to keep an eye out for Go Green and a guy named Al.  Sure enough, as we passed each other, we saw Alex bust a huge coleman slide, and we've been friends ever since.  He's shared a wealth of knowledge with us and the rest of longboarding community, and has always been willing to spare equipment for guys in need.  Al's first race happened to be one of the biggest in the world; the 2007 Texas Sizzler in Austin.  Alex gained a lot of experience riding the hill at Big View, and two years later he pulled his slalom board out to head for the Chicago Cone Crusher, where he earned his first victory by capturing the am class title.  Alex continued promoting Go Green throughout the year by attending events and helping organize Madness in the Mitten with his Go Green teammates.  In October 2009, Alex released www.gogreenlongboarding.com in an effort to engage and promote the Michigan Longboarding Community.  He finished the 2009 slalom season ranked no.162 in the ISSA World Rankings amongst men's amatuers, only partially filling his score sheet.  Al is basically the original gangster when it comes to the modern era of longboarding in Mid Michigan.

Andrew Joseph Burgess

Picture
Andrew's one of a kind.  His stokemeter is absolutely through the roof and he brings tons of energy everywhere he goes.  Fortunately he brings some serious skills too.   Andrew began riding about a year ago and like Jared, we met him at MIM II and have skated with him ever since.  He is up there with the best of them at dancing, drifting, DH, and all around freeriding.  He also displays tons of potential in push racing and slalom, winning the "Fastest Newcomer Award" at the MIM II slalom event this year.  More than anything, he seems to really embrace what longboarding is all about... kickin it with friends and having a great time.  Andrew has become one of the best around in a relatively short time, and we suspect that he'll be on the top of some podiums, sporting a permastoke grin, in the very near future.

Jarod Scott Davidson

Picture
Jared has only been skating for about a year, but you'd never know it by the way he rides.  We met Jared at Madness in the Mitten II and have been skating with him ever since.  Jared has tons of skill when it comes to dancing, drifting, DH, distance pushing (especially), and pretty much everything else.  He tried slalom for the first time at MIM II and managed to run a 52 cone hybrid course clean.. and rather fast, displaying his natural talents.  A few months later he made the semi-final heat at the H3K3 Asylum DH Race against competitors from across Michigan, Ohio, and Canada.   Jared has the potential to become a serious force in future competitions, whether its a push race, downhill, or just plain steez contest.

Bill Ris

Picture
Bill charges harder than most people you will ever skate with and has tons of style while doing so.  He started riding 3 years ago and has stepped his game up more and more by venturing into downhill, slopestyle, and more recently slalom.  He displays tons of natural athleticism and very few people can keep up with him when it comes to soft wheel sliding.  Bill has only attended one official race this year, tying Jay for first ahead of Adrenalina World Champion Jeff Vyain. Jay and Bill routinely train together for upcoming push races, and he will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

Tom Risk

Picture
Tom's the man.  He started skating in 2007 and started mackin' ladies in 1988.  He moved from Indianapolis, IN to East Lansing in 2006 to become an engineer at Michigan State University.  He beat the streets and soon started skating with Al and ourselves.  Tom became a Go Green Member in early 2009 after helping us organize and find sponsors for Madness in the Mitten.  In June 2009, he traveled to Wisconsin for the Sun Prairie Wiggle War, where he picked up his first podium finish by finishing second in the Tight Slalom b, and he competed well in the Michigan Downhill Outlaw that July.  In the fall he traveled with BKS teammates to the Toronto Board Meeting, Southern Fried Cone Fest, and Ancaster Outlaw.  He picked up a 3rd place finish in the am slide competition at the Toronto Board Meeting, and performed well against very competitive fields at SFCF and Ancaster.  Tom finished the 2009 season ranked no. 116 in the ISSA World Rankings amongst men's amatuers.  He also enjoys brewing his own beers.   Look for him to be kickin some ass this year.

Nic Miller

Nic has been Jay's work partner and right hand man for years.  He's been there for us since the beginning and is always down to help make boards.  He's very down to earth and his spirit serves as a permanent example of a true skater.  He's doesn't care about the forums, or hyping the flavor of the week, or anything besides the basic act of skating.  Nic has attended many events with us, but due to work injuries he hasn't really competed at many.  However, he did earn a Top 20 finish in Madness in the Mitten 2 while operating the camera.  There was over 40 contestants and he didn't start until he filmed everyone going past at that start. He's the Silent Bob of our team.  Talks less than most, but holds more wisdom than all. (pic coming soon - he's sneaky)
